Chief Science Officers

Leadership Training Institute & Cabinet

Required foundational training and regional Cabinet Meetings give Chief Science Officers the skills, plan, and peer connections to lead throughout the year.

The Required Foundation

All officers must attend and participate in LTI. The event prepares CSOs for the program year and connects them with fellow student leaders.

Required participation: LTI is the foundational event for every Chief Science Officer.

Build Foundational Skills

LTI equips CSOs with the foundational program skills they need for the year.

Develop the Initial Action Plan

Each CSO begins the Action Plan process by developing an initial plan during LTI.

Build Camaraderie

LTI connects CSOs who may not otherwise meet peers outside their own school.

Learning Continues in Fall and Spring

Cabinet Meetings organize CSOs by geographic Regional Cabinet and are led by a CSO Regional Lead.

At Least Twice a Year

Regional Cabinet Meetings are held at least twice annually, including Fall and Spring meetings.

Typically 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Meetings typically run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch provided.

Led Regionally

The CSO Regional Lead guides each geographic Regional Cabinet.

Extending LTI learning: Cabinet Meetings focus on Action Plans and collaboration with other CSOs, mentors, and STEM professionals.

Participate, Connect, and Share

Leadership extends beyond the foundational event and Cabinet Meetings.

Attend LTI

Every officer is expected to attend and participate in the required Leadership Training Institute.

Attend Regional or Statewide Events

In addition to LTI, CSOs are expected to attend a minimum of two regional or statewide events each year.

Share With Peers

CSOs are expected to share their event experiences with peers.
